The Residency Program

The aim of the Stiftung Reinbeckhallen’s residency program is to help artists, particularly those working in the visual and performing arts, to develop their work by offering them a living/working studio and the support of a professional team. While the Stiftung Reinbeckhallen welcomes and reviews all applications, special consideration is given to those that focus on translocality and transculturalism.

The Spaces and Dates

Successful applicants will be offered a studio (22,5 sqm, ceiling height of 2,56–4 m) in a space (100 sqm) that is shared by other artists, architects, and designers. Each residency period lasts between 8 and 10 weeks and takes place during the following weeks:

January 27th – March 29th, 2020
June 29th – August 23rd, 2020
September 1st – October 25th, 2020

At the end of each residency period, artists will be given a space for the presentation of an exhibition, performance, or similar project, for up to 15 days.

What We Offer

• A free space to live and work in
• A large room to accommodate the artist’s final presentation (to be included in the Stiftung Reinbeckhallen’s program)
• Onsite organizational, curatorial, and communication support

Who Can Apply

The Stiftung Reinbeckhallen residency program is open to artists who reside outside of Germany and work in the visual and performing arts.

Special consideration will be given to LGBTQI+ people, socially disadvantaged individuals, and artists who include printmaking or printing techniques in their practices.

Applications from mothers with small children are welcome and there are no set age limits.

How to Apply

Fill out the application form available here until November 30th, 2019. Applications close at 12pm GMT+1.

Please provide us with your CV, a letter of intent (up to 500 words), an artist statement (up to 500 words), and a portfolio with a selection of works (max. 5 works, max. 10 MB).

For the requested documents, we ask that you make a folder with your full name containing the files (in PDF format). Please upload it to your own server or a file sharing service (such as WeTransfer or Dropbox) and provide us with the download link.

Results

The final selection of participants will be made by a committee comprised of curators, art historians, foundation members, and advisers, and announced by December 15th, 2019.

Nach mehreren erfolgreichen Kooperationsprojekten zwischen der Reinbeckhallen und darstellenden Künstler*innen begrüßen die Hallen nun Dimiris Chimonas, Mitglied des Moving the New Artistic Development Program im Tanzhaus Lemesos.

Dimitris Chimonas Arbeit begreift künstlerische Performances als im Theater erlebte Inszenierungen. In seinem Werk erforscht er Theaterkonventionen, theatralische Mittel und Formate durch deren Gebrauch und Missbrauch. Als Gastgeber bieten die Reinbeckhallen dem Performancekünstler und HWP-Stipendiaten der Libanesischen Vereinigung für Bildende Kunst „Ashkal Alwan“ in Beirut die Möglichkeit, eine Woche lang mit Mitgliedern der lokalen Kunstszene zu recherchieren, zu proben und sich auszutauschen. Während dieser Zeit wird sich Chimonas auf den Inhalt und die Weiterentwicklung seiner aktuellen Produktion The Only Way Out Is Through konzentrieren.

Über diese 
Arbeit schreibt er: „Ein Theaterbesuch setzt voraus, dass wir ein unausgesprochenes Abkommen mit uns selbst treffen: Jeglichen Zweifel auszuräumen. Dieses „Ausräumen des Zweifels“ erfordert jedoch sowohl für Darsteller*innen als auch für Zuschauer*innen die notwendige Bereitschaft, die eigenen kritischen Fähigkeiten vorübergehend zurückzustellen und die Logik dem Vergnügen an der theatralischen Erfahrung zu opfern. Indem wir auf unseren Sitzen im Zuschauerraum inne halten, willigen wir ein, das Leben durch einen geprobten gegenwärtigen Moment zu erleben. Wir reisen durch Raum und Zeit, während wir die Rolle des Publikums spielen. Dieses unausgesprochene Abkommen lehrt uns, wie wir unsere Rolle „spielen“ können.“

Zum Abschluss seines Aufenthalts präsentiert Dimitris Chimonas eine Performance im unkonventionellen Rahmen.

Dimitris Chimonas wurde 1993 in Zypern geboren. Er präsentierte seine Arbeiten bereits in zahlreichen Theatern und Ausstellungsräumen in Zypern, London und New York. Seine Arbeiten wurden unter anderem ausgestellt auf der Website des Edinburgh Fringe Festival, im Benaki Museum (Athen, 2016), auf der Young Artists Biennale (Tirana, 2017), im zypriotischen Pavillon der Architekturbiennale (Venedig, 2018), im Window Laboratoire (Paris, 2018) und auf der Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design & Space (2019).
